Call for Stories: Reflections on Water

Water does not resist. Water flows. When you plunge your hand into it, all you feel is a caress. Water is not a solid wall, it will not stop you. But water always goes where it wants to go, and nothing in the end can stand against it. Water is patient. Dripping water wears away a stone. Remember that, my child. Remember you are half water. If you can’t go through an obstacle, go around it. Water does.

Ice Follies artists Caitlind Brown & Wayne Garrett are seeking stories from the Lake Nipissing community about the lake at night. We are seeking short reflections from local people about experiencing Lake Nipissing after sunset. These stories could be about swimming, skating, fishing, playing, falling in love, or falling through the ice. Perhaps you’d like to share a myth about the lake, or an opinion about the current political use of water.

Whether these are stories are true, fictional, the stuff of legend, or somewhere in-between, we want to gather a small selection of tales and record them. The audio from these recordings will be incorporated into a public sculpture called The Deep Dark: Crossing, a light + shadow to be installed on the ice of North Bay as part of Ice Follies art festival, open to all from February 13 – 27, 2016.

Stories will be recorded on February 8 – 10 at the Media Lab offices (124 Main Street E, Studio C).
