Ilze Briede (KAVI) (@kavi) is a Latvian Canadian digital media artist with 10 years of experience in designing video projection work for theatre, art installations, music shows and various collaborations. As a digital artist, KAVI is inspired by Latvian folk tradition, exploring the possibilities of video projection mapping outside of its traditional form and examining new possibilities through creative experimentation. KAVI’S process-based artwork uses a node-based programming software called TouchDesigner to construct and visualize Latvian folk signs in order to create symmetrical folk patterns, which can then be view through a video projection installation, interactive sculpture or a live performance. KAVI also works as an educator and workshop instructor, sharing her passion for video installation art and assists students in understanding the ‘magic’ behind the projection mapping process.

She has previously worked and exhibited with Fashion Art Toronto, Kensington Market Art Faire, Toronto Burlesque Festival, Sidewalk Toronto, Nuit Blanche and multiple music venues across Toronto. Kavi is currently pursuing a PhD degree in Digital Media at York University, Toronto, Canada.
