Stefan Phillips

Dates: October 17th, 2019

Stefan Phillips is an amateur filmmaker and podcaster based in North Bay, Ontario, that has been creating films with his friends for over a decade. Stefans work favours absurdity, usually paired with historical context. His off-the-wall material manages to hit a sweet spot for those looking for a throwback to Monty Python-inspired silliness even though the parodied sources were too specific for the most audiences. His 2012 noir mini-series turned first feature, The Pasta Killer, was shot entirely in North Bay, starring friends and frequent collaborators that make up his YouTube ensemble ‘UnorthodoxPoppycock’. The film went on to win awards on the festival circuit, including a “Silver Award” at the L.A. Neo-Noir Film Festival in Beverly Hills where it screened again. Stefan is driven by an overwhelming need to craft and hone his art, striving continuously for ever-greater, ever-finer heights in a headlong pursuit of some unknowable, near-unobtainable level of absolute excellence. During his Takeover, Stefan showcased some behind the scenes documentation from his previous films and also shared some spooky scary pics from the set of a short comedy/horror film that he is currently working on.
