Tanya Lukin-Linklater

Dates: August 8th, 2019

Tanya Lukin linklater (@afognak_suk) is a local Indigenous media artist based in North Bay, Ontario whose performances in museums, videos, and installations have been shown in Canada and abroad. Tanya’s performances, videos, installations, and writings work through orality and embodiment – investigating histories of Indigenous peoples’ lives, lands, and structures of sustenance. She investigates insistence in both concept and application and often produces performances with dancers, composers, musicians and poets, in relation to the architecture of museums, objects in exhibition, scores, and cultural belongings. Her work has been exhibited and performed widely nationally and internationally. She was awarded the Chalmers Professional Development Grant in 2010 and the K.M. Hunter Artist Award in Literature in 2013. In 2018 Tanya was chosen by an independent jury as the inaugural recipient of the Wanda Koop Research Fund.

Untitled (for Sonya Kelliher-Combs), Video, 2018. Sonya Kelliher-Combs is an Alaska Native artist working in sculpture. Her work centres family, time and embodied practices on the land. This work told stories from Tanya’s homelands in Alaska but was shot in her home in North Bay, Ontario with herself, her daughters, niece and cousin.
