Starting Salary: $45,000 + Full Suite of Benefits (Health, Dental & Disability Coverage)
Vacation Time: +5 weeks vacation to start (Including 2 during Holiday Closure)

The Near North Mobile Media Lab is a nationally recognized organization that supports vibrant media arts communities in Northern Ontario, based in North Bay. We provide the tools media artists, students, filmmakers, and audiences in Northern Ontario need to produce, present, and enjoy contemporary media art in all its forms. This includes but is not limited to media installations, filmmaking, video art, animation, documentary arts, sound production, and more. We provide a rental service of industry standard equipment at low prices, run workshops, hold screenings and events, and foster a growing community of media artists in our region. Our mandate is to actively promote media arts access for all artists, regardless of age, class, gender, sexual orientation, race or ability. We envision a thriving media arts community in Northern Ontario that produces innovative work, has access to contemporary presentations, and is an active participant in a national discourse by overcoming regional limitations.

We are looking for a new Executive Director to lead the organization into its next chapter.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES

The Executive Director is the key management leader of the Near North Mobile Media Lab. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, communications, programs, and strategic plan of the organization. Other key duties include fundraising and community outreach. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors.

 

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

We are looking for an individual with strong leadership experience in the arts or related field who is seeking a new challenge. This dynamic big-picture thinker will lead an organization that has been the backbone of the media arts community in North Bay and, most recently, in several partner communities across Northern Ontario. Leading a team both at the office and remotely, this candidate will have excellent interpersonal and community building skills, will be able to juggle multiple projects, can understand and execute an ambitious strategic vision, and believes in both innovation and the need to balance organizational sustainability. This self-starter will also have a passion for community grassroots projects with an entrepreneurial spirit. If you think this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you!

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • 3+ years professional experience in an executive or management leadership position in an organization; artistic background an asset
  • Strong knowledge and demonstrated experience working with communities in the arts
  • Excellent leadership qualities and interpersonal skills; understanding of conflict management
  • Experience and familiarity with funding agencies, writing funding applications and reports
  • Communication: Requires excellent communication abilities; MUST have strong written and verbal skills
  • Understanding and experience with anti-oppression and equity frameworks
  • Proven experience managing, overseeing and forecasting cashflow for substantial operational and project budgets
  • Experience working with communities, engaging in outreach, building/sustaining professional networks
  • Clear and effective public speaking skills


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with the board to achieve the strategic vision and foster strong organizational governance
  • Lead a dynamic team of programming, administrative and project staff
  • Encourage a workplace culture that promotes openness, equity, teamwork and respect
  • Implement a fundraising plan to increase the operational budget of the organization
  • Act as the public facing spokesperson for N2M2L
  • Foster relationships with partners to strengthen and sustain community and regional networks
  • Support the programming vision of the organization alongside the Programming Director
  • Develop and oversee operating and project budgets
  • Prepare funding applications, reports and maintain a positive working relationship with funders and stakeholders
  • Work with the accountant, bookkeeper and administrative team to ensure responsible financial oversight of the organization
  • Ensure administrative processes are efficient and meet the needs of the organization
  • Identify opportunities for growth, sustainability and partnership within the mandate and strategic goals of N2M2L
